My Inspiration...

Okay. I'm official. I blog.

Reese is my daughter. I try, whenever possible, to give her nice "things", and to also save money while doing it!

Last fall, I discovered Ana at knockoffwood.blogspot.com while looking for online plans to make a wooden play kitchen. Ana LITERALLY had (or has) a "corner" on the market....she offers plans for FREE! I jumped at the chance to make something with my own hands...I LOVE to craft!

My very first project was Ana's "play stove", which I modified to include a sink and a smaller oven door. This became a gift for my 3 nieces at Christmas.

  1. Hi - I just ran across your blog today. Some of your upcoming projects include some items that are also on my to-do list. I'm curious to see how you do them. Especially the campfire. Do you have any ideas yet? I once made a very cute campfire for another project I was working on, but in a smaller scale. I am thinking of just adapting that to a larger scale for a doll campfire.

I'm especially impressed with your woodworking skills. That is a craft I have never really tried, but have been meaning to. I would love to see a list of the tools you use.

I have recently gotten books out of the library on teaching woodworking to kids. Whenever I want to learn something new I turn to the children's section of the library. I thought I would work my way through some of the kid's projects to develop some basic skills.

I would like to turn the underneath of my daughter's loft bed into a 2-story doll house for her AG doll and then fill it with furniture.

Thanks also for the links to Ana's blog and the mini printables. I printed the money - it's perfect! It will be my daughter's b-day next month so these links and your blog gave me some great ideas.
I do a lot of knitting and I teach a "mom and me" knitting class where the moms knot a piece for their girls, while the girls knit a matching piece for their 18" dolls. It's a lot of fun.

  2. Joanna:

It is nice hearing from you! I am almost done with the doll campfire and will be posting it soon! I made it from scrap wood, an LED tea light, and then free items like rocks, sticks and sand. I hope that it will inspire you!

I also would LOVE to have a AG dollhouse.....but "OH BOY" at the space required! I may post some pics/links that I have run across to give y'all some ideas to roll with....hmmm.

Ana is an AWESOME lady, and was my inspiration to delve into the wood working world! If you follow her on facebook, you will quickly discover MANY other like-minded crafters out there with TONS of creative ideas.

And....I wish I were you and could knit!! I've tried knitting and crocheting MANY times, but I can NEVER get it right! Every female in my family can knit/crochet, sew, quilt, cook, bake, garden....something. I just can't get the knitting and crocheting! So GOD BLESS YOU for being able to do it, and then TEACH OTHERS!! WOW!

Please drop me a line if there are any more questions or if I can help in any way!! I really enjoyed the comments!! Thank YOU! Kristi :)

  3. I wish you lived close by so I could teach you to knit. Oh, the fun you could have! I LOVE the campfire it's better than what I had planned. I was going to use little rocks, sticks, and a tealight, but the sand is great (I was thinking of using felt, and I love the grill.

I am very inspired by your doll purse with the mini printables. I knit a purse from wool yarn, then I shrunk it in my washing machine to felt it. Felting is an inexact science (plus I didn't take the time to swatch and shrink the swatch) and the "Purse" turned out to be a messenger bag (which I love now that I'm reconciled to it being a messenger bag and not a purse). Then I made up some money using the MP link you posted. Next I made a credit card (after googling images) and an ID card. Then I used google some more and came up with a library card, a Chipotle gift card and a Joann's Gift card.

Now I'm sewing a purse from felt that has a clear pocket for the ID card and little slits for the other cards, a place for the paper money and a change purse. It's adorable! I tried to send you a picture in this comment but it wouldn't paste. Is there another way I can send you a picture?

Now I'm working on a little knitting bag (which I knit and felted), and I'm making little knitting needles using dowels and little wooden beads to glue on the end. MP's has some yarn labels that I am going to print up and make little skeins of yarn. Then I will use the doll knitting needles to begin to knit a square so she has a work-in-progress on her needles. What fun!

WOW!! WOW!!!!! You are SO like me....once an idea "takes over" you become obsessed with making it AWESOME!!! LOVE your ideas! I admit....even thought I can't knit, I thought of the "yarn balls" with the yarn labels on them....already printed them out! :) Really like the idea of credit cards, gift cards, drivers license....WOW!!! I agree....wish we were neighbors! :) email me your pics: piecesforreese@gmail.com
